Lecturer, School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton. Vision, Learning and Control Group.

Now

I work on conformal prediction: ways of turning any model's output into a set of answers that carries a finite-sample, distribution-free guarantee.11 For exchangeable data, P(Y ∈ C(X)) ≥ 1 − α, whatever the model underneath. Most of that work is in medicine, where the question is never only whether the guarantee holds, but what it is worth to the person deciding what to do next.

What I am working on

Conformal prognosis in multiple sclerosis

Clinical collaboration · ongoingPrediction sets for disability progression from routine MRI, built with Southampton neurology.

Decision-aware conditional coverage

TheoryWhen should a guarantee hold for this patient rather than on average, and which relaxation of conditional coverage does a given decision actually need?

Calibrated uncertainty for medical images

With my students · 2026/27Conformal methods for segmentation, federated training and clinical time series.

Teaching and students

I supervise undergraduate, MSc and PhD projects on uncertainty quantification. If you would like to work on conformal prediction with me, write to me with a few lines on what draws you to it.

About

I came to the UK from Paraguay in 2016 on a BECAL national scholarship to do a PhD at Royal Holloway, University of London, where I went on to teach as a Teaching Fellow.22 My doctoral work was on making conformal predictors fast on large data, using coresets. See publications. I joined Southampton in October 2023 as a New Frontiers Fellow, and I am now a Lecturer in ECS.
